Where to Put Your Affiliate Disclosure (Placement That Passes)
Placement is the difference between compliant and decorative. A disclosure below the fold, or inside collapsed accordion text, fails the FTC's conspicuousness standard even if the wording is perfect.
How to fix it
- Disclose before the first affiliate link — the reader must know before they click.
- Above the fold on mobile: assume the reader never scrolls if uninterested.
- Short beats buried: one clear sentence beats a paragraph nobody reads.
- Test on a phone in incognito: if you can miss it in 3 seconds, move it.
